Job Description

Find a job as Senior Operations Manager at Bolt in Dar es Salaam.

Bolt is shaping a future where cities are built for people, not cars. What started as an ambitious project of a 19-year-old in 2013 has grown into a global mobility platform used by more than 200 million customers and 4.5 million driver and courier partners across 50 countries.

From ride-hailing and food delivery to scooters, e-bikes, and car-sharing, Bolt helps people move through cities every day. Small, autonomous teams drive this work, combining the speed and ownership of a startup with the scale of a global technology company backed by more than €1bn in funding.

And we're just getting started.

Why join Bolt?

  • Build the future of mobility and help transform how people live and move in cities.
  • Tackle challenges at scale that span technology, operations, regulation, and growth.
  • Take real ownership early. Small, lean teams mean your decisions matter from day one, and you'll learn fast alongside some of the best people in the industry.
  • Join one of Europe's leading technology companies, backed by world-class investors including Sequoia.

About the role

As Senior Operations Manager in Tanzania, you will lead Driver Engagement, Marketplace Efficiency, Rider Growth, and Platform Safety — owning mission-critical KPIs and driving initiatives that scale our marketplace. This role sits at the heart of local operations, from supply retention and rider lifecycle management to platform safety and city expansion. You will work closely with cross-functional and HQ stakeholders to build a safe, compliant, and high-performing ecosystem that makes cities more sustainable, accessible, and affordable.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead driver engagement strategies to build an active, high-quality supply base — optimising onboarding, activation, and reactivation to achieve strong month-on-month retention, and launching reward and data-driven programs to improve loyalty and reduce churn.
  • Maximise finished rides while maintaining alignment with Payback and IRR targets, continuously monitoring marketplace health and implementing initiatives that improve efficiency and unit economics.
  • Own city-level performance by identifying blockers, defining solutions, and executing city-specific strategies in close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Optimise supply-demand balance to reduce cancellations, improve ETAs, and enhance overall marketplace reliability and quality.
  • Drive growth in active riders and rides per user, improving rider retention and lifetime value through targeted engagement, category expansion, and partnership with Marketing on demand-side campaigns.
  • Lead safety and compliance initiatives in collaboration with government bodies, LATRA, and law enforcement — ensuring adherence to local laws, tax reporting requirements, and marketplace quality standards.

About you:

  • 9+ years of experience in operations, mobility, marketplace platforms, or logistics, with a proven track record leading large-scale operational or marketplace functions.
  • Strong analytical mindset with expert-level Excel or Google Sheets skills and the ability to translate data into measurable outcomes.
  • A strategic thinker who is equally execution-oriented — comfortable owning KPIs and driving results in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Swahili is a plus.
  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and lead through complexity.
  • Deeply customer-focused, with a genuine passion for improving the experience of both riders and drivers.

Why you'll love it here:

  • Accelerate your professional growth with unique career opportunities.
  • Enjoy a rewarding salary and stock options, knowing that as Bolt succeeds, so do you.
  • Take care of your physical and mental health with our wellness perks.
  • Celebrate 5 years at Bolt with a 1-month paid sabbatical to recharge.
  • Connect with colleagues at annual company events and smaller team gatherings.
  • Balance flexibility and in-person collaboration with our hybrid model, including at least 12 monthly in-office days.

Some perks may differ depending on your location and role.

At Bolt, using AI daily is a baseline expectation for everyone. If there's a faster, smarter way to do your work, we expect you to find it. You're still responsible for the output, so the standard stays high when using AI tools. Experience is great, but what we really look for is drive, intelligence, and integrity. So even if you don't tick every box, please consider applying!
